U.S. President Joe Biden planned to vaccinate 70% of adults by 4 July and 10 to 15-year-old children as soon as possible. Mr Biden has now set a new goal that Independence Day has 160 million adults fully vaccinated. The target is possibly achievable because the U.S. is vaccinating a million adults per day.
Mr. Biden said that the administration is working to conquer the doubter about the vaccine.
On Monday, Mr. Biden said at White House, let’s celebrate independence as a nation in two months and celebrate this virus’s independence. We can do this; we will do this.
The president also publicized a new website for vaccines. Which Americans can use to comfortably find the vaccination sites after the complaints that the process of signing up is complicate for some.
A phone number is also announced for Americans to submit their Postal Code and get information about the vaccination site in their area.
Previously, Mr. Biden had set the aim to get the “back to normal” by 4 July.
Plans about vaccinating children
The FDA is evaluating that whether the Pfizer vaccine is effective for children that are 12 years old.
Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is approved for 16-year-old people. And Mr. Biden said that he would not hinder the FDA process, and when the announcement comes, they will immediately move according to it.
Biden also added that the vaccine would be available to 15,000 pharmacies for the teenagers to get the vaccine from there. If the FDA approved the vaccine for children, the vaccine would be open to about 17 million teenagers 12 to 15 years old.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the president’s chief medical adviser, stated that vaccinating children is needed to return to everyday life.
The infection rate is increased in children after completing the vaccination of 75% of seniors. It is now essential for America to reach herd immunity, but it is still unclear the threshold for herd immunity. At which the infection will stop spreading in people.
