On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced that they would start the nation’s first large-scale offshore wind project. This is a crucial step to reach Biden’s goal of increasing renewable energy production in the US.
According to the Department of the interior and commerce announcement, This vineyard wind mega project of 800-megawatt, set to be situated about 12 nautical miles off the shore of Martha’s Vineyard. And it will include 84 turbines.
Deb Haaland, the Interior Secretary, labeled the project’s approval as a vital step toward advancing the government’s goal to create good-paying union jobs while fighting climate change. Deb also added that this step is also essential to open the doors of economic opportunity to more Americans.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management finalized its environmental revisions related to this project. It is projected to create 3600 jobs and power 400,000 businesses and homes.
From the start, the increase of renewable energy sources has been the priority goal of president Biden. And in late January, Biden signed the executive orders pointed to deal with the climate crisis. And this agreement also included the doubling of renewable energy production from offshore wind by 2030.
In March, the government announced the mega project of offshore wind energy production in the US to jump-start a renewable clean energy revolution.
The departments of interior Energy and Commerce claimed to joint goal of producing 30 gigawatts of offshore wind in the US by 2030. According to the government’s fact sheet, This target will provide the employment opportunity to 44,000 workers in offshore wind projects by 2030 and almost 33,000 jobs in communities supported by offshore wind activity.
The March enterprise came less than a week after the Biden government announced its target to reduce solar energy costs by 60% over the next decade.
The environment is also a big focus behind this project. Roughly $2 trillion organization proposal that Biden claimed he would provide hundreds and thousands of jobs while dealing with the climate crisis.this project will reduce the emissions and build a fully clean grid. This project will surely be practical to deal with the rapid climate change and control the carbon emission.
